1. Can / Could / Would you...? -> Request / Offers / Permission & Invitation

1) Request

- Can you wait a minute, please? = Could you wait a minute, please?

- Can you do me a favor? 부탁좀 드려도 될까요?

= Would you do me a favor? 

= Can I ask a favor of you? 

= Can I ask you a favor?

= Will you do me a favor?

- Excuse me, Could you tell me how to get to the airport?

- I wonder if you could help me.

- Do you think you could lend me some money until next week? => Do you think you could .. ~ 해 줄 수 있니?

- Would you please be quit? I'm trying to concentrate.

2) Asking for something

- Can I have these postcards, please?

- Could I have the salt, please?

- May I have the salt, please?

3) Asking for permission

- Can I speak to Tome, Please?

- Could I use your phone?

- Do you think I could borrow your bike?

- May I come in?

4) Offering

- Would you like a cup of coffee?

- Would you like to go to the movie with us Saturday night?

- I'd like some information about hotel, please.

- I'd like to try on this jacket, please. = Can I try it on?


2. Question 

- Tom will be here tomorrow -> Will Tom be here tomorrow?

- You have been working hard. -> Have you been working hard?

- The house was built in 1987. -> When was the house built?

- Who wants something to eat?

- What happened to you last week?

- Which bus goes downtown?

- Who do you want to speak to?

- What was the weather like yesterday?

- Which job has Sarah applied for?

- Didn't you hear the doorbell?

- Haven't we met somewhere before? -> Yes, I think we have.

- Isn't it a beautiful day? It's a beautiful day, isn't it?

- Where has Sarah gone? Do you know where Sarah has gone?

- What time is it? Do you know what time it it?

- Who is that women? = I don't know who that woman is. = I have no idea who that woman is.

- Where can I find Sarah? Can you tell me where I can find Sarah?

- How much will it cost? = Do you have any idea how much it will cost?

- What time does the movie begin? Do you know what time the movie begin?

- What do you mean? = Please explain what you mean.

- Why did Sarah leave early? I wonder why Sarah left early.

- Did anybody see you? = Do you know if anybody saw you?

- Where is the post office? = Do you know where the post office is?

- What does this word mean? = I'd like to know what this word means.

- Is Sarah going out tonight? = I don't know whether Sarah's going out tonight.

- Where does Sarah lives? = Do you have any idea Where Sarah lives.

- Where did I park the car? = I can't remember where I parked the car.

- Is there a bank near here? = Can you tell me if there's a bank near hear?

- What do you want? = Tell me what you want.

- Why didn't Sarah come to the party? = I wonder why Sarah didn't come to the party.

- Did Sarah get my letter? = Do you know whether Sarah got my letter?

- How far is it to the airport? = Can you tell me how fat it is to the airport.


* The police officer said to us " Where are you going?" = The police officer asked us where we were going.

* Sarah said, "What time do the bank close"  = Sarah wanted to know what time the bank closed.

* She asked (me) if I was willing to travel.

* She wanted to know what I did my spare time.
